Wild Zambezi recently had the opportunity to overnight in Victoria Falls at the truly delightful self-catering “Your Vic Falls Home”. What a pleasure!
Owned by the Jackson family, this lovely double-storey property set in mature woodland in one of the long-established suburbs of Victoria Falls town, has been converted into a self-catering tourism facility which will sleep a party of friends or family of up to 14 people.
It was wonderful to find somewhere spacious, homely and simple as an affordable alternative to Victoria Falls’ vast array of up-market or luxury hotels, lodges and guesthouses catering to commercial tourism at prices out of reach of most local and regional visitors.
At “Our” Vic Falls Home, we found a place to relax completely and “do our own thing”, within a convenient walking distance (if required) of the shops, restaurants and other amenities in the centre of the town, but without any of the hustle and bustle.
Having said this, Your Vic Falls Home is not short of its own luxuries. The place is large – ideally suited to accommodate a big family, with an expansive, open-plan entrance hall-dining-room and covered patio, a TV room and adjacent large kitchen.
There are four downstairs bedrooms (with three bathrooms, one en-suite), and a vast upstairs “dormitory” which sleeps an additional 5 or 6. There is air-conditioning in the bedrooms, mosquito nets and a free wi-fi connection.
The lovely, tree-shaded outdoor deck has a sparkling swimming pool with an adjacent barbeque and outdoor eating area and an attractive view out through the trees towards the Zambezi River.
No less than three delightful members of staff keep the place spotless and provide all the basic essentials (including complimentary tea/coffee /iced drinking water) for guests. They will help with cooking if required (or will leave you to do your own thing) and are on hand at all times to clean up.
The house is gated and security-fenced and there is covered parking. Guests are given their own remote buttons for independent gate access – so you can come and go whenever you want.
We would suggest that this property is the ideal choice for a group of friends or extended family who want a flexible holiday accommodation option in Victoria Falls that isn’t going to break the bank. It’s ideal for self-drivers, and for a group of more than 10, it’s extremely affordable.
But of course, as a result, it’s popular. So, if you’re keen…. you need to book well in advance.
