Imvelo Safari Lodges, who own Zambezi River properties - Gorges Lodge downstream from the Victoria Falls and Zambezi Sands River Camp in the Zambezi National Park upstream from the Falls, as well as safari camps in Hwange National Park, have introduced a great new Family Promotion Special for 2020.
During January – April and November - December 2020, children aged 16 years and below sharing with parents stay free (max two per room) at all the Imvelo lodges and there are a host of exciting activities for the whole family to enjoy!
At Gorges Lodge, Imvelo has partnered with professional offshore rigger Andy Schultz to develop canyoning in the DibuDibu, which is a magical tributary gorge to the Batoka Gorge, complete with waterfalls and rock pools. Andy can tailor the level of challenge of the route to the age, fitness and enthusiasm of the participants, but climbing, abseiling, ropework, even swimming in the rock pools, is all on offer ( available for children aged 12 and above).
Canoeing on the Zambezi River is always a hit at Zambezi Sands, for youngsters too. Imvelo uses inflatable rubber canoes which are stable and easy to paddle – whitewater is limited to shallow rapids which are great fun to run in a canoe – everyone will get wet, but this is all part of the fun to be had under the African sun!
At Imvelo’s Hwange National Park lodges, Bomani and Camelthorn, young guests thoroughly enjoy visiting one of the schools near the lodges to meet, interact and even play soccer with the locals. This is an education in itself which even helps them to better appreciate the resources at their own schools back home. They also have the option of a horse ride – each outing is designed to fit the experience of the participants – or to spend time in the Look-up, a sunken hide at a waterhole where the wildlife can get up close, but where the observers will be safe from any potential danger.
At all of the Imvelo lodges, kids thoroughly enjoy walking with a knowledgeable guide who has experience with kids and knows just how to make a walk in the wilderness into some wild fun. They will be looking for the ‘Little Five’: antlions, leopard tortoises, rhino beetles, buffalo weavers and elephant shrews!
This is just a sample of some of the wonderful and educational safari activities on offer for families - at the Imvelo's camps in 2020.
