The Bumi Hills Anti-Poaching Unit (BHAPU) was established in July 2009 . Working Closely with Nyami-Nyami Rural District Council Wildlife Section and The Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority the unit works tirelessly to protect and conserve all forms of fauna and flora in the Sebungwe Region of Northern Zimbabwe. The unit is based at Bumi Hills.
Our MOTTO is: Rehabilitate – Protect - Preserve
Our MISSION is to safeguard wildlife and wilderness.
Our VISION is to protect all remaining wildlife within the region and open the door for the return of the species lost.
EXPERIENCE
With a combined conservation experience spanning decades, our unit integrates field skills such as tracking, surveillance and wildlife crime scene investigation with modern technologies to ensure a holistic approach to our anti-poaching efforts.
COLLABORATION
The war on poaching cannot be won alone. Through conscious collaboration we align ourselves with professional organisations, local authorities and other local conservation-driven initiatives. These partnerships are vital to our continued success.
STANDARDS
All aspects of our conduct deserve the highest level of standards. From our operational procedures to quality of life for our field staff. We pride ourselves on ensuring the unit is well-equipped both physically and mentally for the challenging work they do.
TECHNOLOGY
Technology is pertinent in conservation law enforcement. From data collection and spatial monitoring systems to detailed satellite imagery links and personnel tracking, we enable our unit to be several steps ahead while ensuring safety and security.
In 2016, the Bumi Hills Foundation was formed. The Foundation is a registered Zimbabwean non-profit trust that encompasses community, environmental and social development in the Kariba area. Its was established to legitimise and streamline conservation and community development efforts within the Sebungwe region.
Part of this process involved incorporating the Bumi Hills Anti Poaching Unit (BHAPU) into the Foundation and separating it from the commercial enterprise that manages Bumi Hills Safari Lodge.
