Parks and Wildlife, Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority (ZimParks) is responsible for conserving Zimbabwe's wildlife resources, in National Parks, Protected Areas and on other state-owned land.

ZimParks has basic self-catering tourism lodges/cottages and campsite facilities for visitors in its properties throughout Zimbabwe.  All of these are situated in prime scenic and wildlife areas.  In the Kariba and Zambezi area facilities are as follows:
Kariba Charara: campsite
Kariba Nyanyana: campsite and cottages
Matusadona : campsite and two exclusive lodges
Chizarira: campsites
Marongora: campsite
Mana Pools: campsite; lodges, cottages, exclusive camps (see maps right)
Chewore: campsite

BOOKINGS: 
Reservations for Parks facilities are opened one year in advance to all clients, including Zimbabwe residents. 
Clients are treated on a first come first serve basis, with payment being demanded up front.

Recommended accommodation options for visitors to Binga: 

Masumu Lodge: Lakeside lodge and camping with beautiful lakeside setting.  Simple catering or self-catering options available. Boats and houseboat for hire.  Access road requires sturdy 4x4 for the last 4 kms

Private House: self-catering lakeside lodge - sleeps 8.

Also available are Kulizwe and Chilila self-catering chalet resorts and Binga Rest Camp and campsite near the Binga hotsprings. 

Various houseboats are also available for hire in Binga e.g. Catalina, Mermaid, Ponty and Abangane.

Fuel is generally available in Binga.  Fresh supplies can be pre-ordered by people staying in self-catering accommodation or on houseboats.  These can be put in place for them on arrival.

Chewore Lodge and Campsite

Chewore Lodge and Campsite is situated in a beautiful woodland setting at the confluence of the Chewore and Zambezi Rivers.  This is a prime fishing and wildlife location within the Chewore Safari Area, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with Mana Pools National Park and the neighbouring Sapi Safari Area.   

The Campsite
There are 10 campsites which cater for up to 4 people each.  Campers are limited to bringing one boat per site. Each campsite has its own shower and toilet with an efficient wood-fired boiler for a hot shower in the cooler months. Each site has a braai/kitchen area with a 230-liter "Minus 40" deep freeze and plug point. During the night there are lights over the kitchen area and in the toilet / shower.  These are run by an inverter, so there is complete silence at night. Fuel, ice and firewood can be purchased on site. There is a communal swimming pool for all campsites.

The Lodge
This is an all-inclusive fishing camp for up to 8 guests that caters for your every need. The lodge comprises four double/twin chalets all with en-suite bathrooms, a central lounge, bar, swimming pool and dining area. There are two large, luxury, pontoon fishing boats fully equipped with fishing tackle and experienced drivers to take you out on the river for game viewing, fishing or a sundowner cruise. Game viewing and photographic opportunities are abundant in the area.

Hornbill Lodge is a small, intimate lodge situated on Mica Point in Kariba.

The lodge offers comfortable accommodation for up to ten people in A-frame thatch chalet-bedrooms (one double, two twin and one new four-bed family room) - each with ensuite facilities.  A separate satellite thatch bar, lounge and dining area overlooks a lovely plunge pool and offers a panoramic view of Lake Kariba.  Relax in the shade of indigenous trees in the beautiful, landscaped garden.

All meals and local drinks are included and DSTV is available.  Extra activities can include fishing, game viewing by boat, a short drive to the Kariba dam wall and a sundowner up at Kariba Heights.

At Jecha Point Fishing Lodge on the banks of the Zambezi River, downstream from the border town of Chirundu, we offer exclusive, wild, yet accessible accommodation which is clean and comfortable and set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings.

The lodge can comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in thatched chalets all with en-suite bathroom facilities and fans.  Four chalets sleep two guests each and our family chalet sleeps four adults.  Laundry is done on a daily basis.  Fully catered and semi-self catered options are available.

Jecha Point specializes in offering professional guiding to fly fishing enthusiasts focused on the mighty tiger fish and other exciting species.  We also also cater for conventional fisherman. 

We also offer photographic excursions (day trips) to Mana Pools, birding safaris, game walks, game viewing from an elevated platform and photographic boat cruises.

Our facilities are ideal as a quaint venue for small conferences and weddings and we offer personalised wedding planning and catering.

Guests visiting Jecha can expect to see wild elephants frequenting the camp on a daily basis, especially when the Acacia and Torchwood trees are in fruit.   The lodge is far enough away from Chirundu to have plenty of other game animals visiting the camp surrounds during the day and at night.  These can all be viewed safely from our elevated platform, which can seat up to 12 guests.

The Wilderness Retreat
Unwind in magnificent surroundings of the Wilderness Eco-Lodge in the Mavhuradonha Wilderness Area located about 200km from Harare.

The retreat is situated in a forest area with Miombo woodland, rocky hills, vleis and serpentine grassland.

Mavhuradonha means “ Place of Falling Water” and is a natural environment of great beauty with crystal clear water and fresh mountain air.  The Wilderness Eco-Lodge site has a stream that flows through the property so guests can enjoy the sound of the flowing river which provides a tranquil and picturesque retreat to rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit. 

Guest accommodation includes 21 chalets, 11 A-frame "bashas" and expansive camping grounds.  Each chalet has a verandah, which is a great place from which guests can view the star-filled night sky and “chill out” before they retire for the night. 

The retreat provides the option of self catering or full-catering, with simple meals being provided by the onsite staff, who can also undertake basic housekeeping duties. 

Wilderness Eco-Lodge also provides "in the wild" conferencing facilities with a conference room that accommodates up to 50 people.

Spurwing Island on Lake Kariba offers a variety of accommodation, which includes 11 tents with en suite bathrooms, 6 cabins and 3 chalets - stone under thatch rooms with en suite bathrooms.
 
Activities include scenic boat trips, game viewing in the Matusadona National Park by foot, boat or Landrover and fishing in the many gorgeous spots on the lake. The camp offers a relaxed family spot with no airs or graces. The thatched dining room is open to the breeze with a view of the surrounding lake.  There is a large pool to cool off in and a bar area looking out towards the Matusadona Mountains in the distance.
