Garth Jenman, Managing Director of Jenman Safaris, and his Operations Manager, Wayne Powell, recently visited Zimbabwe to rediscover its tourism potential. He writes:
With all the negativity we hear about Zimbabwe I was not sure what to expect before heading up on a fact finding trip at the end of June this year. We were in for a pleasant surprise. Zimbabwe was as magnificent as it always has been and in my opinion has as much to offer as its neighbouring Southern African countries in many regards. The area is complete with lush vegetation, magnificent wildlife and most of the safari areas and accommodation options are still in great condition. We even came across wireless internet at one of the lodges - not that we go to Zimbabwe for this. The police were friendly, the shops are stocked with food, and fuel was readily available. I also found that the Zimbabwean people a highlight on this trip - they have to be the nicest and kindest people you will ever meet. After going to all the national parks around Zimbabwe as well as taking in cities like Harare and Bulawayo we at no stage felt threatened or in any danger.
