News from Tiger Safaris in Chirundu
by Tiger Safaris

29-May-09

There have been lots of mixed messages about the opening of Kariba Dam's gates. But we have been in constant contact with the Zambezi River Authority and they have stressed that Lake Kariba will peak in mid June and they feel they won't have to open the floodgates. If necessary they will only open one.

We have had a lucky few weeks with game in the area. There have been two herds of elephants, one herd of cows and calves and another of six bulls. We think they are back in the area because they are hiding away from the hunters. There have also been a few bush buck just outside the fence which was very exciting for us to see again. The Lions are back in the area, there is spoor to see all around but we have not been lucky enough to see them yet. We have had visits from the hyenas nightly and of course the regular old hippos. 4 x 4 the elephant has not been back to the garden although has been seen in the area. Our bird life is still fantastic for the bird enthusiasts.

Bring yourselves down to Tiger Safaris in June for a bit of winter warmth, not forgetting the half-term break.

We have had recent problems with phones and broadband. However, things are looking up: our land lines 063-7-633 and 785 have been working pretty well and our e mail and skype is up and running again, so please persevere.
