For those of you who have not visited this breathtaking Island for a while, let us tell you about the wonderful sights you have been missing!! Gary and I took over from Gill and Colin in January, and can honestly say not a day goes by without being amazed by something, be it a bird or animal or an awesome sunset. Spurwing is truly one of the most beautiful settings for a perfect getaway!!
 
Sean and Criffy, the islands professional guides, have come across cheetah, lion , leopard and wild cat at Fish Eagle Bay, and the best prize of all, a black Rhino named Pfumbi! Of course, elephant are still in abundance with our resident mum having given birth to a little one in December last year. This family is often seen around the island and the antics of the baby keep us amused for hours on end!! On the island itself, there is a fairly large herd of impala which can be seen grazing early in the morning or early evening.
 
Bird life on the island is in its usual abundance, with plenty of Arrowmark Babblers preventing guests from having an afternoon nap! A charming Little Bee Eater can be seen bathing in my birdbath most evenings. Sean came across a very rare sighting of a Stanley's Bustard, a bird Sean has not seen in the area before.
 
Fishing has been excellent in the past three months with in excess of 400kg's of good sized bream being caught. Even Leonard (Chooks) the head barman , who professes to hate fishing managed to haul in a 1.2 kg bream.
 
The lake has risen so much now we are feeding the fish from the garden in front of the bar each evening. This provides great entertainment for the children. Speaking of entertainment for the children, we are in the process of building a playground for the younger ones, this will be done by next half term. We are also hoping to have a small beauty salon soon and are looking for a beautician, so ladies, be prepared to spoil yourselves on your next visit!!!
