Musango Safari Camp is an exclusive, 16-bed family-run camp, on its own island in Lake Kariba overlooking the Matusadona National Park
Owner, Steve Edwards, has over 45 years of experience, with an intimate knowledge of the bush and the history and wildlife of this area. His wife Wendy is responsible for reservations and assists Steve in running and maintaining the camp. Their son Graham (a newly-qualified guide) is passionate about nature, is an avid birder and keen photographer, and their daughter Robyn assists with reservations and warmly hosting guests at camp.
Musango offers an abundance of both wild animals and birds with a large selection of activities available, or the option to simply relax. From guided walking safaris and ‘Big Five’ game drives, to tiger fishing on Lake Kariba, guests can experience the abundant wildlife in a multitude of ways. Activities are fun, informal and operated by trained and experienced guides. Children are welcome.
Capture the essence and ambiance that wild Kariba is so famous for: breath taking bush and lake scenery, unforgettable photographic opportunities, wildlife experiences second to none, involvement in wildlife research projects, village school tours, unbeatable fishing opportunities, day sailing trips and specialist birding trips with nearly 400 species recorded!
Gain fascinating insights into the local history, geology, archaeology and palaeontology. Visit early Stone Age tool quarries, or go on a dinosaur fossil hunt with Steve, who is an expert on the subject. He has recently discovered the fossil remains of a dinosaur called a Phytosaurus. This is the only specimen of its kind in Africa south of the Sahara and can be seen at Musango!
The camp is accessible from Victoria Falls, Harare or Kariba via light-aircraft charter into Bumi Hills airstrip, via lake transfers by speedboat from Kariba, and, for the more adventurous, by 4x4 along the backroads.

An absolute highlight on our recent overland trip thru Botswana and Zimbabwe. Steve and Wendy Edwards, camp owners and hosts of Musango were superb hosts and guides. Service, catering and accommodation was 5 star and we could not recommend them highly enough. Surrounded by the waters of Kariba and the shores of Matusadona, Musango is a gem for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers alike, whether on foot or on the water. We were lucky enough to spend 3 days with Steve and Wendy and their wonderful Musango crew and would recommend Musango on your next trip. Arrive as special guests and leave as lifelong friends
Greetings Grant, thank you so much for your very kind words . It was great seeing you again after so many years. Looking forward to your return . Stay safe mate.

It's a piece of paradise. Thanks to Steve and Wendy and all the friendly staff. I hope next time I will stay for a much longer time. Came here in my 61-year-old Land Rover and it was more than worth the long journey. Thanks again for the exceptional experience.

All our adventures and fishing trips we will hold the memories dear forever – all of the staff, rooms and food exceeded expectations! Cannot wait to be back again soon, hopefully with our family from Australia. Graham's knowledge of the wildlife and flora was exceptional!! We waited 3 years with Covid to get here – and wasn't it worth the wait. We knew it would be a special place and it was simply quite magical. What a wonderful start to our African adventure. We've loved every minute of our stay. Thank you for looking after us so well and the warm welcome. We'd love to come back!

A PERFECT SPOT IN THE ZIMBABWEAN BUSH. We were looking for a spot to spend Christmas in Africa and Musango turned out to be the perfect away from home. Steve, Wendy, and their children are lovely people who truly love Zimbabwe and know the area like no other. Instead of snow we spent the holiday looking for lions, watching elephants take a mud bath, and having sundowners on Lake Kariba. We were self-drivers and the trip from Vic Falls takes about 10 hours through the bush – this drive let us see the part of Zimbabwe that most don't and was a great adventure (4×4 only). Once we arrived we were treated to delicious food and surrounded by warm people. Can't wait to return one day.

ONE DOESN'T GO EVERY YEAR IF YOU DO NOT LOVE THE PLACE. Steve and Wendy, as private owners, operate the camp as it should be. It is a safari camp so do not expect luxury silk sheets, wifi and a spa. The rooms are comfortable and of adequate size. Rooms 7 and 8 have a plunge pool. All the rooms face the rising sun. Wake up is 0500 if you want to do activities. Brunch around 1130-1200, afternoon tea at 1530 and dinner around 2000. Dining is Al Fresco unless weather has a say in which case it is in the dining area. The lounge area is situated so that the breeze blows through. No glass windows and doors here! Wendy and the chef produce great food from a very varied menu. Local fish are very tasty. Steve is a great guide and very knowledgeable. He is very proud of his fossil sites dating back 200 Million years. A trip to the fishing village is very educational otherwise game drives, boat cruises and fishing. A bush walk is also available. We spent 10 days there and loved every minute. You won't be disappointed and if you just want to chill out then this is the place. The staff have been there years and are like second family now. A must visit as this sort of place is rare.

WORDS CAN'T DESCRIBE THIS VERY SPECIAL PLACE. Not only were Steve and Wendy the most amazing hosts but all the staff are wonderful – warm, welcoming, extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to be with and the food was absolutely delicious. This is our third time to visit Musango over a 15-year period and the first time for our 3 boys who had a wonderful time – fishing, game viewing, swimming, star gazing and looking for scorpions at night …. they won't ever forget their time spent here. We were lucky to see lion and spent an entire game drive following and watching them – very special. Steve is so knowledgeable and such fun to be with – we're saving for our next trip. Thanks again to all the staff – we'll be back.

This classic safari camp owes its long-standing and excellent reputation to the entertaining personality of its owner, Steve Edwards, who has been in the business for longer than he likes to remember! It's a delightful, comfortable and intimate little camp with a wonderful "tropical island" feel about it. You won't believe how much fascinating information you will learn about Kariba, its birdlife, its wildlife and its history from Steve. The resident bushbuck are a great draw for kids who are welcome at the camp, and can enjoy this bush environment in relative safety.
